Wisdom Is Discernment
Genesis 15:9-15
So the Lord said to him, “Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.”
Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half. Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.
As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.
Matthew 16:3
and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
A wise person discerns before taking action. Discernment is necessary because the times are wicked. There are many deceivers, tempters, and swindlers in this world. But since God has gifted us with the wisdom to discern, as long as you discern, you can escape and be spared from harm and suffering. Therefore, you should discern before taking action.
There are so many things in your daily life that require discernment: time, events, people, yourself, God, and the heavens. However, the most critical thing to discern is yourself. You must first discern what you yourself should be doing because through your own actions you are either blessed or cursed. You must act according to the Lord’s Will and the Lord’s Word; then you will never get into an accident or suffer harm.
The power of the wise is the ability to discern. To discern means to dissect, to break things down, and to analyze. If you keep breaking things down further and further, you will eventually come to know the answer and what you should do.
People should take action while considering many variables, not just one. You must think about all the possible repercussions. You must think a lot. Therefore, analyze something after dissecting it. Then, everything will be revealed.
Separate good and evil
Because Abraham failed to split up his offering, Satan got involved. God cannot accept the things of Satan. Splitting and not splitting are related to dirtiness. It is related to sin, contradictions, or things that are inappropriate before God. So we need to also separate out what’s unclean within ourselves. We can do that with the Word and by repenting—by splitting up the good and evil, so we can come before God as clean offerings. If we don’t do this, Satan will get involved and ultimately things will not work out. Whatever upsets or offends God will result in judgment. God is good, but He is also righteous and just, so He cannot tolerate sin.
You also need to be careful with your speech. You must have heavy lips to have more authority and cause fewer problems. If you know how to discern good from evil, things will work out well. People who are unable to discern good and evil will fail to recognize even the Messiah and God’s history. Only the Lord can discern absolutely what is good and what is evil. So be awake and pray to God for discernment.
Your future depends on your ability to discern
A person’s destiny is not predestined. It depends on what they do. Wisdom is discernment, so a wise person analyzes in order to decide. The answer will emerge after breaking things down and dissecting them. Ensure you take action after careful examination to see whether it’s something you should or shouldn’t do. Discern whether someone is on your side or not. Don’t discern by what they say or by their actions. Instead, discern things with your heart that is centered on the Lord. Don’t just readily accept things but discern.
If you take action without discerning and dissecting, it’ll lead to big trouble. To discern means to figure out which is better, which is more ideal, and what work needs to be done. It is to determine God’s Will and the Lord’s Will. You must discern well to do well.
