Is Your Spirit Starving?

Our bodies require food for energy and water just to live.

Most of us pay great attention to whether or not our bodies get an ample amount of nutrients. Our mothers worry about whether we eat three scrumptious meals each day for our well-being and overall health. Some of us go the extra mile by taking supplements like vitamins because we feel we are not getting enough.

But while we focus and invest so much to keep our bodies healthy by eating good food and exercising, the news is we do not have just our physical bodies.

We are composed of the body, soul, and spirit.

Thessalonians 5:23 – “May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

From the moment a baby starts to form in the womb, God created our spiritual body, spirit and the soul entity to exist all at the same time. He created our physical bodies and spiritual bodies as entirely separate beings and also created our soul entities which play the role of mediating between and connecting our physical body and spirit.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the soul, a simplified way of describing your soul is your deep heart, mind, and thoughts. (Not to be confused with the thoughts of your body that are like, “I need to eat. I need to sleep. I am hungry.” No, these are your deep profound thoughts, feelings, and conscience that make up who you are.)

The spirit, which is the eternal being that exists even after your body dies, yearns to be connected and close to God.

That is, human beings exist as PHYSICAL BODIES, SOUL ENTITIES, and SPIRITUAL BODIES.

Spirit Born in Baby

We all think about keeping our bodies healthy, but what about our souls and spirits? What should we do on a regular basis to keep your souls and spirits healthy?

Just like how our physical bodies require maintenance, the spirit and soul also require different kinds of nutrients to remain alive and to grow.

What is the equivalent of food and water to help our souls and spirits develop and mature?

SPIRIT LIVES OFF OF THE WORD

Yes, you guessed it. It is the Word of God.

For the spirit, the Word is equivalent to food and water.

You wash away your sins and renew your thoughts with the water of God’s Word.  Your spirits transform magnificently and are nurtured by your body’s actions when applying the Word of God. In other words, the spirit grows from the fruit of your actions—the deeds you do from the branches of your thoughts.

The Word is God Himself and is something that expresses the love of the Holy Trinity and the way to life most clearly. We should listen to the Word, take action upon it, and live loving our Holy Trinity and Saviour every day.

So the final question I ask you is “How are you nurturing your soul and spirit? Are they deprived of food and water?”

If you have neglected to take care of them, it is not too late to start.
